Highclere Castle
Although a tourist attraction in its own right, Highclere Castle puts on a wide variety of events every year. It really is worth checking to see what's coming up and make sure you put something in your diary.

A few examples include:

  • 'Battle Proms' - celebration of classical music.
  • Highclere Country Fair.
  • International Horse Trials.
The castle itself is famous for its Egyptology exhibition and gained notoriety as the home to the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who spent much time and effort in trying to uncover the secrets of ancient Egypt.

An impressive private exhibition of ancient Egyptian finds accumulated from excavations in Thebes and Balamun by the 5th Earl and Howard Carter between 1907 and 1913 are now housed in part of the old cellars in Highclere Castle.
